Ruston, La. — Bakelite Synthetics, a global leader in specialty resins and engineered thermoset materials, has been named the Top Level Industry Partner for Louisiana Tech University’s new Forest Products Innovation Center. The strategic collaboration positions Bakelite as a key player in fostering innovation, research, and sustainability in the forest products industry.
As part of the partnership, Bakelite Synthetics will engage with Louisiana Tech students, faculty, and fellow industry leaders to support scientific research and technological advancement. The company will also contribute to developing real-world applications for engineered wood products, resins, coatings, and adhesives—helping to drive innovation within Louisiana’s renewable forest sector.
“This partnership underscores Bakelite’s commitment to sustainable innovation and collaboration with universities and industry,” said JP Aucoin, President and CEO of Bakelite Synthetics. “We look forward to helping develop the next generation of scientists while supporting valuable solutions for the timber industry and the planet.”
The Forest Products Innovation Center is part of Louisiana Tech’s Tech 2030 initiative and aims to serve as a hub for interdisciplinary research across forestry, engineering, and supply chain management. It will include multiple research labs focused on engineered wood products, chemistry, and analytics—providing an ideal environment for Bakelite’s contributions.
“Bakelite’s involvement brings a strategic innovation partner to the table,” said Dr. Gary Kennedy, Dean of the College of Applied and Natural Sciences at Louisiana Tech. “Though not a forest products company per se, they support the industry through essential components and technologies. Their presence enhances the Center’s capacity to offer cutting-edge education and research opportunities.”

The Innovation Center is expected to:
- Strengthen Louisiana’s position in the global timber industry
