SHREVEPORT, La. — Sixteen current and former LSU Health Shreveport researchers have been included in the 2026 World’s Top 2% Scientists List, a database that measures researchers’ influence through citations of their published work, according to the institution.
The honorees include 11 active faculty members and five retired or emeritus faculty members. Their fields include neuroscience, otolaryngology, pathology, anesthesiology, pediatrics, pharmacology, biochemistry and microbiology.
Developed by Stanford University researchers and published in partnership with Elsevier, the database evaluates citation impact across 22 scientific fields and 174 subfields. It uses standardized indicators to assess career-long and recent research impact.
“Their attainment of this rank serves as a reminder of the nationally recognized expertise and caliber of our faculty,” said Dr. Lester W. Johnson, LSU Health Shreveport senior vice chancellor.
The active faculty members recognized are:
- Karuna Dewan, associate professor of otolaryngology/head and neck surgery.
- Shile Huang, professor of biochemistry and molecular biology.
- Alan D. Kaye, professor of anesthesiology and professor of pharmacology, toxicology and neuroscience.
- Christopher G. Kevil, professor of pathology, molecular and cellular physiology, and cellular biology and anatomy.
- Gopi K. Kolluru, assistant professor of pathology, molecular and cellular physiology, and cellular biology and anatomy.
- Kevin S. Murnane, associate professor of pharmacology, toxicology and neuroscience and psychiatry.
- Cherie-Ann Nathan, professor and chair of otolaryngology/head and neck surgery.
- A. Wayne Orr, professor of cellular biology and anatomy and molecular and cellular physiology.
- Oren Rom, assistant vice chancellor for research.
- Arif Yurdagul, associate professor of molecular and cellular physiology.
- Quanguang Zhang, professor of neurology.
Retired and emeritus faculty members recognized are:

- Kenneth E. McMartin, emeritus professor of pharmacology, toxicology and neuroscience.
LSU Health Shreveport said the recognition of retired and emeritus faculty reflects the continued use of their published research by other scientists.
“This international recognition reflects the outstanding caliber of our scientists and the growing impact of LSU Health Shreveport research on the global scientific community,” Rom said.
