SHREVEPORT, La. — The Shreveport-Bossier Astronomical Society will hold a free public star party on Saturday, Oct. 18, 2025, from 7:30 to 10 p.m. at the Shreveport Observatory as part of the 35th anniversary of the Hubble Space Telescope.
Attendees can view Saturn and its moon Titan, along with galaxies, star clusters, double stars and nebulae through multiple telescopes. The event will be canceled if skies are cloudy or if it is raining.
To support observatory operations, the society is raffling a Seestar S-30 Digital Smart Telescope. Tickets are $10 and available at the event or online. The drawing is scheduled for 9 p.m. on Oct. 18. Winners do not need to be present.
The observatory is located eight miles south of the LSU Shreveport campus. Visitors should take Louisiana Highway 1 south, turn right on Highway 175 for about 1.7 miles, then left on Astronomical Way.
