MINDEN, La. — Northwest Louisiana Technical Community College has received initial accreditation from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges, a milestone the institution said concludes a seven-year effort that began when it transitioned to a community college in 2019.
The SACSCOC Board of Trustees granted initial accreditation on June 11, 2026, following two years of continued compliance and institutional review. SACSCOC is a recognized accrediting body for degree-granting higher education institutions in the United States and internationally.
With the accreditation, Northwest Louisiana Technical Community College joins several other accredited institutions in North Louisiana, including Bossier Parish Community College, Louisiana Delta Community College, Louisiana Tech University, Northwestern State University of Louisiana and the University of Louisiana at Monroe.
College officials said the accreditation process required extensive reviews of governance, academic programs, student support services, financial resources, strategic planning and institutional effectiveness. The process also included the development of new policies and procedures, detailed reporting requirements, institutional restructuring and multiple campus evaluations conducted by SACSCOC representatives.
The college said it completed the accreditation process in approximately seven years, a timeline shorter than the nearly decade-long process often associated with SACSCOC accreditation.
Northwest Louisiana Technical Community College has been accredited by the Council on Occupational Education since 1975. The addition of SACSCOC accreditation is expected to support new partnerships with other institutions, expand student transfer opportunities and allow the college to pursue additional academic programs aligned with regional workforce and educational needs.
“This is a historic milestone for Northwest Louisiana Technical Community College,” Chancellor Jayda Spillers said. “Achieving SACSCOC accreditation reflects years of dedication and hard work by our faculty, staff, administrators, and supporters. This accomplishment affirms the quality of education we provide and positions NLTCC for continued growth, expanded opportunities for our students, and a stronger impact on the communities we serve.”
College officials said the accreditation positions the institution for future growth as it continues to provide academic, technical and workforce education programs across the region.
