Ruston, LA – Dr. Lindsey Vincent, Associate Dean for Research, Outreach, and Innovation at Louisiana Tech University, has been appointed to the National Science Foundation’s (NSF) EDU Advisory Committee. In this role, Vincent will leverage her expertise in STEM education and workforce development to shape national strategies while advocating for the needs of rural communities like those in Louisiana.
A Seat at the Table for Rural STEM Education
Vincent’s appointment will allow her to bring research-backed solutions to national discussions and ensure that best practices developed in rural areas receive recognition and implementation at the federal level.
“As a member of this advisory committee, I look forward to sharing our best practices with leaders at the federal level while ensuring that our region benefits from the latest advancements in STEM education,” said Vincent. “Having a seat at the table allows us to collaboratively engage and catalyze advancements in STEM education and workforce development.”
Her primary goal on the committee is to advocate for rural communities by championing research-based approaches to STEM education, security, and workforce development.
“My goal through service is to connect thought leaders, doers, and supporters to create opportunities for learners of all backgrounds, ensuring they have access to the resources necessary for expanding their knowledge and employment prospects,” Vincent added.
National Recognition for Louisiana Tech’s STEM Initiatives
Louisiana Tech’s College of Education and Human Sciences has been a leader in advancing STEM education, and Vincent’s appointment reinforces that impact at the national level.
“We are so fortunate to have Dr. Vincent’s representation at a national level to share our wins and provide insight into the challenges we face, especially with regard to STEM education in rural communities,” said Dr. Henrietta Williams-Pichon, Dean of the College of Education and Human Sciences. “I look forward to staying connected to the national conversations and having a rural education advocate as part of this important committee.”
Leveraging Opportunities for Regional Growth
Vincent is committed to engaging with community leaders, educators, and industry partners to identify ways to further strengthen STEM initiatives across Louisiana and beyond.
Her appointment follows Louisiana Tech’s recent efforts in STEM education, including hosting the NSF STEM Education Advisory Council meeting and a principal investigator workshop for faculty from Arkansas, Mississippi, and Louisiana. These events highlighted the region’s potential for STEM talent growth and reinforced its importance in advancing national innovation, education, and economic development.
“By supporting initiatives that span formal education, informal learning, and workforce development, this committee—alongside NSF—has the opportunity to identify and scale successful STEM education projects in partnership with industry, government, and community leaders nationwide,” Vincent said.
Her leadership on the NSF committee will help ensure that Louisiana Tech remains at the forefront of national STEM education and workforce development discussions while continuing to drive regional innovation and student success.
