Louisiana ranks third among the nation’s best states for summer road trips, according to a new study by WalletHub.
The report comes as nearly 72% of U.S. adults plan to take a road trip this summer. WalletHub compared all 50 states across 32 metrics related to affordability, safety and travel experiences, including attractions, road quality and travel-related costs.
Louisiana scored particularly well in several categories. The state ranked fourth for average gas prices, second for nightlife options per capita, eighth for access to scenic byways and eighth for driving laws. Louisiana also ranked 13th for number of attractions and 16th for camping affordability.
The state’s ranking was helped by relatively low fuel costs and a strong mix of entertainment and outdoor travel options, according to the analysis.
Minnesota claimed the top overall ranking in WalletHub’s study. WalletHub analyst Chip Lupo said the state benefits from strong investments in parks and recreation, a large number of summer fairs and festivals, and favorable road safety measures.
“Taking a summer road trip can be a very exciting way to experience a new place, but with the prices of gas, food and accommodations still impacted by inflation, you’ll want to be in a state that makes this type of vacation affordable,” Lupo said. “Safe roads are also key, and so is having plenty of worthwhile attractions to stop at along the road.”
The report evaluated states on factors ranging from travel costs and accommodations to road safety and recreational opportunities as travelers continue to seek budget-conscious vacation options.
WalletHub’s findings suggest Louisiana remains a competitive destination for regional travelers seeking affordable road trips, supported by lower fuel prices, abundant entertainment options and access to scenic driving routes.
