WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senators John Kennedy and Bill Cassidy, both Republicans from Louisiana, are praising President Donald Trump for prioritizing American energy policy and recognizing Louisiana’s central role in liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports.
In a joint letter addressed to President Trump, the senators applauded his administration’s swift move to reverse the pause on non-free trade agreement (non-FTA) LNG export permits and highlighted the significance of sending Interior Secretary Doug Burgum and Energy Secretary Chris Wright to visit a Louisiana LNG facility as one of their first official energy-related trips.
“We appreciate your decision on Day One to reverse the pause on non-FTA LNG export permitting,” the senators wrote. “We applaud your administration’s decision for Interior Secretary Burgum and Energy Secretary Wright to visit a Louisiana LNG facility as one of their first energy trips.”
According to the letter, Louisiana accounted for more than 60% of all U.S. LNG exports in 2024, underscoring the state’s key position in securing America’s energy independence and supporting global allies with affordable, cleaner-burning fuel.
“Louisiana is the backbone of America’s LNG export industry,” the senators emphasized. “Under your leadership, the U.S. is positioned to achieve record-breaking LNG exports.”
Kennedy and Cassidy stressed the importance of stable, pro-growth policies to allow the LNG sector to continue thriving, both at home and abroad.
“We look forward to working with you on policies to allow the LNG sector to thrive. Ensuring consistent, predictable policies from the administration and Congress will bolster U.S. competitiveness and reinforce our nation’s energy leadership,” they added.
The move is seen as a significant boost for Louisiana’s energy economy, which has long been a national leader in LNG exports and offshore production. The senators’ letter reinforces the state’s commitment to remaining at the forefront of America’s energy resurgence under the Trump administration.
