BATON ROUGE, La. – Keep Louisiana Beautiful (KLB), in collaboration with the Office of the Lieutenant Governor, has opened registration for the 2025 Love the Boot Week, the state’s largest litter removal and beautification initiative. Scheduled for April 5-13, 2025, the campaign aims to mobilize over 20,000 volunteers to clean up Louisiana’s communities and enhance their natural beauty.
Groups and individuals are encouraged to register their events at LoveTheBoot.org by March 17, 2025. The first 600 groups with 10 or more participants to register will receive a supply box containing t-shirts, gloves, and trash bags. Additionally, the first 100 smaller groups (fewer than 10 participants) will receive a one-day Louisiana State Parks pass.
A Call to Action for All Louisianans
Lieutenant Governor Billy Nungesser highlighted the importance of Love the Boot Week, referencing a recent KLB litter study that found 92% of Louisianans believe litter is a significant issue, with an estimated 143.8 million pieces of litter on the state’s roadways.
“Love the Boot Week is about more than cleaning up—it’s about raising awareness and promoting prevention,” Nungesser said. “I urge every resident in every parish to take part in this effort to preserve Louisiana’s unique beauty.”
Susan Russell, Executive Director of KLB, emphasized the movement’s growth: “Our goal for 2025 is to reach 1,000 cleanup and beautification events. With the passion and dedication of Louisianans, I know we can achieve this milestone.”
Last Year’s Success, This Year’s Ambitions
In 2024, Love the Boot Week engaged 19,441 volunteers in 760 events across all 64 parishes. Collectively, participants:
- Removed 347 tons of litter.
- Planted 921 trees and 4,408 plants.
- Refurbished 366 gardens.
KLB anticipates even greater outcomes in 2025.
Recycling Initiative Expands
Thanks to sponsorship from Coca-Cola, the Osprey Initiative will provide recycling services for plastic bottles and aluminum cans collected in 27 parishes, helping divert waste from landfills. Drop-off services will be available at Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development offices across the state.
“At Coca-Cola, we believe in giving our bottles and cans new life,” said Scott Ryan, Vice President of Franchise Operations. “Supporting Love the Boot Week underscores our commitment to sustainability and litter reduction.”
