SHREVEPORT, LA — Centenary College of Louisiana will mark its 200th anniversary with a year-long series of events, beginning with a campus “birthday party” on January 8, 2025. The date — 1.8.25 — symbolizes the College’s founding year, 1825. Centenary holds the distinction of being the oldest higher education institution in Louisiana and the oldest chartered liberal arts college west of the Mississippi River.
The bicentennial festivities will span the entire 2025 calendar year, featuring a diverse lineup of events and activities, including:
- A special exhibit at the Meadows Museum of Art showcasing the College’s legacy and contributions.
- A festive neighborhood celebration during the Krewe of Highland Mardi Gras parade.
- An alumni trip to Centenary’s original campus in Jackson, Louisiana.
- A campus art stroll highlighting the artistic talents of the Centenary community.
- The culminating event, Spotlight Centenary Gala, to be held in December 2025.
Additional events will be announced throughout the year, with full details available on the official bicentennial website, centenary200.com.
A dedicated planning committee, consisting of Centenary alumni, faculty, staff, students, and community members, has worked for over a year to design this milestone celebration.
“Centenary’s long history is intertwined with that of our city, state, and region, and we are excited to have the opportunity to celebrate that legacy with the community in Shreveport-Bossier City and beyond throughout our bicentennial year,” said Dr. Christopher L. Holoman, president of Centenary College. “We look forward to ongoing educational excellence, continued growth, and meaningful community engagement as we enter our third century.”
