VERNON PARISH, La. — Louisiana is expected to become the first state in the nation to establish a full-service Office of Motor Vehicles location on a federal military installation, a move aimed at expanding access to driver’s licensing and other state services for military personnel and their families at Fort Polk.
Gov. Jeff Landry announced the initiative Thursday, saying the office will provide a range of OMV services directly on the military installation. State officials said the project is intended to reduce travel and administrative burdens for service members while supporting military recruitment and retention efforts in Louisiana.
“Louisiana is proud to lead the nation by becoming the first state to establish a full-service OMV on a federal military installation,” Landry said. “Our service members and their families sacrifice every day for our freedom, and they deserve a state government that supports them. By bringing these essential services directly to Fort Polk, we are making life easier for the men and women who serve while strengthening recruitment and retention in Louisiana.”
The planned office will offer driver’s licenses and other motor vehicle services on site, providing military personnel, veterans and their families with direct access to state government services without leaving the installation.
Bryan Adams, principal assistant for the Louisiana Department of Public Safety, said the partnership reflects the state’s commitment to serving members of the armed forces and veterans.
“It’s an honor to be part of the first established Motor Vehicle Office on a federal military installation,” Adams said. “Providing essential services to our veterans and service members has always been our priority. I am sincerely grateful for this partnership and hope we can continue to give back to those Armed Forces members who give us so much.”
State officials did not provide a timeline for the opening of the Fort Polk office.
