SHREVEPORT — Average gasoline prices in Shreveport fell 9.6 cents per gallon over the past week, bringing the local average to $2.33 per gallon, according to GasBuddy’s survey of 177 stations in the city.
Prices are now 10.9 cents per gallon lower than a month ago and 21.8 cents lower than this time last year.
Across the U.S., the national average price of gasoline declined 4.5 cents over the past week to $2.85 per gallon. The national average is down 22.0 cents from a month ago and 12.6 cents lower than a year ago, based on GasBuddy data compiled from more than 11 million weekly price reports covering over 150,000 stations nationwide.
Diesel prices also continued to ease, with the national average falling 5.3 cents over the past week to $3.618 per gallon.
In Shreveport, the lowest price reported Tuesday was $2.07 per gallon, while the highest reached $2.79 per gallon, a spread of 72 cents. Statewide, prices ranged from a low of $2.07 per gallon to a high of $3.57 per gallon, a difference of $1.50.
Neighboring markets showed mixed declines. Little Rock averaged $2.37 per gallon, down 1.3 cents from last week. Dallas prices fell sharply, down 13.8 cents to $2.26 per gallon. The Louisiana statewide average dropped 3.3 cents to $2.46 per gallon.
“For the third straight week, the national average price of gasoline has fallen, once again setting a new multi-year low,” said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy. “Just ahead of Christmas, the national average stands at its lowest level since March 12, 2021, delivering weekly savings of nearly $400 million compared to this time last year.”
De Haan said additional declines are possible as refinery output increases and global oil supplies expand.
Historical data show Shreveport gasoline prices at $2.55 per gallon one year ago and $2.50 per gallon in December 2023. Prices stood at $1.77 per gallon in December 2015, highlighting the long-term volatility in fuel costs.
