BATON ROUGE, La. The United States Postal Service said it is prepared for Louisiana’s peak mailing and shipping period as its real-time Holiday Mail Counter went live online, offering customers visibility into national mail and package volumes during the season.
USPS officials said ongoing investments in network modernization and expanded processing capacity support holiday readiness. The organization has opened hundreds of upgraded facilities nationwide equipped with new sorting machines, bringing the total to 614, including one in Louisiana. The expanded network increases daily package processing capacity to about 88 million, up from 60 million a year ago.
“The holiday season is our busiest time of the year and one of our most critical opportunities to serve Louisiana,” said Louisiana District Manager James Chambers. “Thanks to the investments made in Louisiana and across the country, and the hard work of the USPS workforce, we are ready to deliver for you this holiday season reliably, quickly, and affordably.”
USPS plans to hire 14,000 temporary employees nationally to support the full-time workforce and handle increased holiday volume.
The Postal Service said it continues to offer the most affordable options for sending mail and packages, with average delivery times of less than three days. Shipments within regional service areas are expected to move in two to three days.
