SHREVEPORT, La. – Providence House, a local nonprofit dedicated to empowering homeless families, has been named a finalist in LWCC’s 2024 Holiday Giving Program. The annual initiative by Louisiana Workers’ Compensation Corporation (LWCC) awards a total of $20,000 to three Louisiana nonprofits, with funding distributed based on public votes. Voting is open now through Dec. 22, 2024, at lwcc.com/holiday-giving.
Providence House joins Baton Rouge-based Empower 225 and the Louisiana Organ Procurement Agency as this year’s finalists. Each organization was nominated by LWCC agent partners and selected by LWCC’s Agency Council from a pool of 28 statewide nominees.
A Mission to Empower
Providence House works tirelessly to assist homeless families in achieving independence. By offering transitional housing, life skills training, childcare, and educational resources, the nonprofit aims to address the root causes of homelessness and provide a path to stability.
“We are honored to be recognized as a finalist in LWCC’s Holiday Giving Program,” said a Providence House representative. “Every vote is an opportunity to amplify our mission and help more families in our community rebuild their lives.”
LWCC’s Commitment to Louisiana
LWCC’s Holiday Giving Program aligns with the organization’s mission to help Louisiana thrive by celebrating and supporting nonprofits that make a difference in their communities. The funding, determined by the percentage of public votes each finalist receives, provides critical resources to organizations serving diverse needs across the state.
In 2023, nearly 3,000 votes determined the distribution of funds among three finalists: Upside Downs, Gaitway Therapeutic Horsemanship, and Split Second Foundation. The top recipient, Upside Downs, received $9,800 to further its advocacy for individuals with Down Syndrome.
How to Vote
The public can support Providence House by casting a vote at lwcc.com/holiday-giving until Dec. 22. Each vote helps determine how the $20,000 fund will be shared among the finalists.
