On Monday, Jan. 20, 2025, the Krewe of Gemini held its General Membership Meeting and Annual Bead Reception at the Krewe of Gemini Den in Bossier City. The event, which attracted Krewe members and guests alike, focused on the cultural and economic significance of Mardi Gras and featured a lineup of distinguished guest speakers.
Former state Sen. Mike Walsworth, representing Lt. Gov. Billy Nungesser’s office, joined Bossier City Mayor Tommy Chandler and Visit Shreveport-Bossier President and CEO Stacy Brown to discuss Mardi Gras’ vital role in Louisiana’s tourism industry and its economic impact locally and statewide.
“Mardi Gras isn’t just a celebration; it’s a cornerstone of Louisiana’s identity,” Walsworth said. “It brings people together and drives tourism, creating millions in economic opportunities for our communities.”
Mayor Chandler echoed these sentiments, emphasizing Bossier City’s role in the season’s festivities. “Our city takes pride in being part of a tradition that showcases our culture and strengthens our economy,” Chandler said.
Stacy Brown highlighted the broader impact of Mardi Gras. “Every year, Mardi Gras generates significant economic activity,” she said. “It draws visitors from across the country, who come to experience the vibrant culture and community spirit we offer.”
The evening also included the Annual Bead Reception, where members received exclusive polystone beads from this year’s royal court, commemorating the 2025 Mardi Gras season. Attendees enjoyed classic Louisiana dishes prepared by Gemini’s 2025 King, Queen, and Captain, with gumbo and red beans and rice adding to the festive atmosphere.
