Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana Releases 2023 Health, Care, and Innovation Report

BATON ROUGE, La. – Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana has published its 2023 Health, Care and Innovation report, showcasing significant achievements in health improvement, care delivery, and innovation throughout the past year. The annual report highlights the insurer’s efforts to enhance the well-being of Louisianians through strategic provider partnerships, community collaborations, and ongoing initiatives.

Key Highlights from the Report

The 2023 report focuses on five core pillars: Health, Affordability, Experience, Sustainability, and Foundations. It includes notable examples of programs, services, and partnerships that advanced these areas in the past year. Key successes highlighted in the report include:

  • High Satisfaction in Care Management: Blue Cross members participating in Care Management reported a 90% satisfaction rate, benefiting from personalized support from the insurer’s in-house clinical team.
  • Reduction in Hospital Admissions and ER Visits: Investments in data analytics enabled early intervention and support for members with chronic conditions, leading to fewer hospital admissions and emergency room visits.
  • Improved Preventive Care and Immunization Rates: Collaborations with Quality Blue providers led to improvements in preventive screenings, condition management, and childhood immunization rates.
  • High-Risk Maternity Strategy: A new strategy was implemented to address major risk factors contributing to Louisiana’s high rates of poor birth outcomes, targeting specific areas for improvement.
  • Cost Containment: Medical Management pre-pay avoidance and recovery programs helped contain over $36 million in costs.
  • Employer Recognitions: Blue Cross earned numerous employer recognitions, including being named a Best Place to Work in Baton Rouge and Shreveport, a Top Military Friendly Employer by G.I. Jobs, and inclusion on DiversityInc’s 2023 Top Regional Companies List.
  • Blue Bikes Program: More than half a million trips were taken with Blue Bikes, Louisiana’s first bikeshare program in New Orleans, which Blue Cross sponsors and helped re-establish after the COVID-19 pandemic.
