SHREVEPORT, La. — United Way Northwest Louisiana will host Get Banked Day on Thursday, Oct. 22, connecting residents with banks, credit unions and community organizations offering information about banking, credit management and homeownership.
The free event will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Riverview Hall, 600 Clyde Fant Parkway. Registration is encouraged, but walk-ins are welcome.
Participating financial institutions will explain banking options and help students and adults ages 18 and older explore opening accounts. Account availability will depend on individual circumstances and each institution’s requirements.
The event will also offer information about the differences between financial apps and traditional banking options.
“Financial security is about more than having a bank account. It’s about having access to information, resources, and opportunities that help people make informed decisions about their financial future,” said Florence Jackson, director of financial security at United Way Northwest Louisiana. “Get Banked Day gives our community an opportunity to ask questions, explore their options, and connect with financial partners and resources—all in one place.”
Attendees can participate in the A.L.I.C.E. Reality Simulator, an interactive role-playing exercise developed by the United Way network to illustrate the financial pressures and budget choices facing working households.
Participating partners include local banks, credit unions and community organizations. Individual institutions were not identified in the announcement.
“Everyone’s financial journey looks different, and sometimes the first step is simply knowing what options are available,” Jackson said. “We want people to leave Get Banked Day with greater knowledge, useful connections, and resources they can take with them as they work toward their financial goals.”
Advance registration is available through United Way Northwest Louisiana’s Get Banked Day event page on Calendly.
