SHREVEPORT, La. — Eight Shreveport-Bossier families have received fortified roofs through a $129,442 grant from the Federal Home Loan Bank of Dallas in partnership with Bonvenu Bank.
The funding supported installation of roofs meeting FORTIFIED standards, which are designed to help homes better withstand severe weather.
The project involved the Fuller Center for Housing of Northwest Louisiana and Community Renewal International, which worked with the bank and FHLB Dallas to identify and assist participating homeowners.
The investment comes as Louisiana homeowners continue to face concerns over storm damage, rising insurance costs and the availability of affordable property insurance.
FORTIFIED is a construction and re-roofing standard developed by the Insurance Institute for Business & Home Safety. The program uses specific building techniques intended to strengthen homes against severe weather, including high winds and heavy rain.
Bonvenu Bank participated in the project through its relationship with FHLB Dallas, one of 11 Federal Home Loan Banks nationwide. FHLB Dallas provides financial products and community investment programs to member financial institutions across its district.
The $129,442 grant covered fortified roof improvements for eight households in the Shreveport-Bossier area.
