SHREVEPORT, La. — Southern Trace Country Club is marking five years of member ownership with a series of completed upgrades to its golf, racquet and clubhouse facilities, a milestone that follows the club’s purchase from ClubCorp in 2020.
Members committed to what they called a return to excellence when they acquired the club, and projects completed since then span course improvements, expanded practice areas and clubhouse renovations. The Arthur Hills-designed course has undergone irrigation replacement, tee box re-grassing and the rebuilding of greens. The club also added a 70,000-square-foot practice facility with a double-sided range, practice greens and a short-game area.
Racquet facilities have been upgraded with resurfaced Har-Tru courts and four new pickleball courts. Inside the clubhouse, a redesigned dining venue called Franklin’s features a U-shaped bar and updated dining spaces. A covered outdoor terrace overlooking the course extends the restaurant’s capacity year-round.
“Troon has been proud to work alongside Southern Trace members throughout this journey,” said David Stinson, vice president of operations at Troon. “From agronomy to clubhouse operations, our role has been to provide expertise and resources while empowering the membership to bring their vision to life.”
The club’s fitness center has been updated with new equipment, and youth programming has expanded in a larger Trace Kids space. A private swing suite equipped with TrackMan technology, called The Bunker, offers indoor practice and entertainment.
Clint Cormier, president of the board of directors, said member involvement has been central to the club’s progress. “I’m incredibly proud to be part of this community and to see our members unite around a place that holds so many memories,” he said. “They’ve invested in its future, proving our guiding message true: Your course. Your community. Your club.”
Southern Trace was established in 1988 and features a 7,015-yard course that has hosted multiple professional and amateur tournaments, including the Southern Open on the former Web.com Tour. The club is managed by Troon Privé, the private club operating division of Troon.
