SHREVEPORT, La. — Average gasoline prices in Shreveport fell 9.2 cents per gallon over the past week to $3.84, offering motorists some relief while remaining above month-ago and year-ago levels, according to GasBuddy.
The company’s Oct. 5 report, based on a survey of 177 Shreveport stations, showed local prices were 14.8 cents higher than a month earlier and $1.23 higher than a year earlier.
Prices at individual Shreveport stations ranged from $3.62 to $4.29 per gallon on Oct. 4, a difference of 67 cents. Across Louisiana, reported prices ranged from $3.55 to $5.29 per gallon.
Louisiana’s statewide average fell 9.1 cents over the week to $3.90 per gallon, placing Shreveport’s average 6 cents below the state figure.
Nationally, gasoline prices declined 12.5 cents to an average of $4.30 per gallon. That remained 19.3 cents higher than a month earlier and $1.22 higher than a year earlier. The national average diesel price dropped 14.2 cents to $6.307 per gallon.
“Average gasoline prices fell in 48 states over the last week, with diesel declining in 48 states as well, as a broad-based retreat brought relief to motorists across much of the country,” said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy.
De Haan said recently enacted fuel tax cuts contributed to larger declines in Georgia and Ohio. He said prices could continue falling in most states, although markets where prices regularly cycle between increases and gradual declines could see an upward swing in the days ahead.
Despite rising oil shipments through the Strait of Hormuz, De Haan said refineries behind the strait were still limited in their ability to move refined products through, keeping gasoline and diesel prices elevated relative to crude oil prices.
Among nearby markets, Little Rock’s average fell 9 cents to $3.88 per gallon, while Dallas’ average rose 11.3 cents to $3.93.
GasBuddy compiles its national figures from more than 11 million weekly price reports covering over 150,000 stations.
