BATON ROUGE, La. – With the May 7, 2025 REAL ID enforcement deadline approaching, the Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles (OMV) will open select field offices on three Saturdays this spring to assist residents in obtaining REAL ID-compliant driver’s licenses and identification cards.
OMV encourages walk-in customers, but appointments are recommended and can be scheduled at www.expresslane.org/appointments.
Special Saturday Openings
The following OMV locations will be open from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on March 15, April 12, and May 3:
- Alexandria
- Baton Rouge
- Houma
- Lafayette
- Lake Charles
- Livingston
- New Orleans (Veterans Blvd.)
- Monroe
- Shreveport
- Westbank – Oakwood Center
REAL ID Enforcement Deadline
Beginning May 7, 2025, a REAL ID-compliant driver’s license or identification card will be required to:
- Board domestic flights
- Access federal buildings
- Enter military bases and nuclear power plants
A Louisiana REAL ID-compliant license will display a gold circle with a star cutout in the top right corner. If a license or ID does not meet REAL ID standards, travelers must present an alternative federal identification such as a valid passport.
How to Obtain a REAL ID
- Residents renewing a license or ID should consider upgrading to a REAL ID-compliant credential.
- Residents not eligible for renewal can apply for a duplicate REAL ID-compliant license or ID.
- LOUIE, the Louisiana OMV’s virtual REAL ID expert, can assist residents in identifying required documents at www.expresslane.org/REALID.
- REAL ID-compliant licenses and IDs must be obtained in person at an OMV field office or Public Tag Agent location.
