Shreveport, LA – In a unified effort to ensure downtown Shreveport remains a vibrant and secure hub for nightlife, the Shreveport Downtown Development Authority (DDA), Shreveport Police Department (SPD), and local business leader Dr. Chelette Holden have launched new late-night safety initiatives aimed at protecting patrons and businesses alike.
In response to recent after-hours incidents, the collaboration has resulted in the strategic deployment of additional police officers in two critical downtown areas between the hours of 10:00 p.m. and 3:00 a.m. This time frame was identified as a high-priority window for increasing law enforcement visibility and deterring potential criminal activity.
“We recognize the importance of upholding downtown Shreveport as a safe and welcoming space for everyone,” said Cedric B. Glover, Executive Director of the Shreveport DDA. “This partnership is an important step toward creating an even more secure environment, especially during the hours when the need for additional security is highest.”
At the heart of the initiative is Dr. Chelette Holden, a prominent advocate for the downtown district and owner of several nightlife establishments, including Haze on Texas, Royalty Cigar and Hookah Lounge, and The G-Spot Daq To Go. Dr. Holden not only helped identify areas of concern but also personally contributed funds to help cover the costs of the enhanced law enforcement presence.
“As a business owner and downtown stakeholder, I am committed to downtown Shreveport’s success and safety,” said Dr. Holden. “For the past ten years, we have invested tirelessly in making downtown fun and safe. We look forward to its future. We want downtown Shreveport to look like Times Square—a fun and safe place to work, live, and play!”
The initiative has already received positive feedback from patrons and community members alike. The DDA, SPD, and partners like the Real Time Crime Center will continue to evaluate and adapt the program to ensure it meets the evolving needs of the district.
This collaborative approach to safety underscores the shared vision of business leaders, law enforcement, and community stakeholders to ensure downtown Shreveport remains not only an entertainment destination but a model for public-private partnership and proactive urban management.
