Delta Utilities, a newly formed natural gas utility headquartered in Louisiana and backed by Bernhard Capital Partners, has officially completed its acquisition of CenterPoint Energy’s regulated natural gas distribution companies across Louisiana and Mississippi. The deal brings approximately 380,000 customers under the Delta Utilities banner—including a significant footprint in Northwest Louisiana—with no action required by existing customers.
This milestone marks a pivotal shift in the region’s energy landscape and is expected to bring lasting economic benefits and operational enhancements throughout the Ark-La-Tex and beyond. The acquisition comes with a promise of expanded infrastructure investment, job creation, and increased community engagement.
“Today is nothing short of historic for the energy landscape in the Gulf South region, the communities we are proud to serve, and the legacy we hope to build at Delta Utilities,” said Pete Tumminello, Executive Chairman of the Delta Utilities Board of Directors. “We are excited to welcome 500 experienced employees—many of whom have already been serving these communities for years—as we invest in safe, modern infrastructure that supports long-term economic development.”
Impact on Northwest Louisiana
Northwest Louisiana customers will see continuity in service, with billing cycles, payment options, and online portal access remaining unchanged for now. More importantly, the transition is poised to create high-quality jobs and stimulate local economic activity. Delta Utilities has pledged millions in investment across its operating footprint, with more than 200 new jobs anticipated across Louisiana and Mississippi.
With a local presence that includes former CenterPoint Energy employees in Shreveport, Bossier City, and surrounding communities, Delta Utilities brings with it a commitment to both continuity and innovation. “Our team is focused on maintaining safe operations while delivering a seamless transition experience to our customers,” said Tim Poché, CEO of Delta Utilities.
A Growing Footprint in Louisiana
The acquisition further positions Delta Utilities as a major player in the energy sector. Once pending deals are finalized—including the planned acquisition of Entergy’s natural gas utilities in New Orleans and Baton Rouge—Delta Utilities will serve nearly 600,000 customers and rank among the top 40 natural gas providers in the country, with projected assets totaling $1.7 billion.
The Louisiana Public Service Commission played a key role in reviewing and approving the transition. Their support signals strong institutional confidence in Delta Utilities’ ability to deliver on its promises of reliability, affordability, and economic growth.
Looking Ahead
The new ownership structure is expected to bring renewed focus to infrastructure modernization, reliability during severe weather events, and economic development partnerships in communities across the state.
With a strong Louisiana-based leadership team, Delta Utilities aims to be more than just a utility provider. “We see this as an opportunity to build stronger, more resilient communities—and that starts with investing in people and infrastructure,” added Poché.
