The Methanol Institute (MI) proudly announces Bia Energy Operating Company LLC as its newest member. Bia Energy is spearheading an innovative low-carbon methanol production facility in Shreveport, Louisiana, with an annual capacity of approximately 550,000 metric tons (183 million gallons/692 million liters) of blue and bio-methanol. This project is expected to achieve a remarkable >93% reduction in CO₂ emissions compared to traditional methanol production methods, marking a significant milestone in the pursuit of sustainable energy solutions.
A Commitment to Innovation and Sustainability
“Bia Energy’s dedication to producing low-carbon methanol exemplifies the innovation driving our industry forward,” said Greg Dolan, CEO of the Methanol Institute. “As a transitional fuel, low-carbon methanol is vital to reducing emissions across industries and advancing the global energy transition. This project not only supports sustainability efforts but also bolsters domestic manufacturing. We are excited to collaborate with Bia Energy to accelerate the growth of the low-carbon methanol sector.”
Dr. Ana Rodriguez, CEO and Co-founder of Bia Energy, expressed the company’s enthusiasm for joining MI: “Our partnership with the Methanol Institute and its member companies will help us advance the low-carbon methanol market. With fully U.S.-based operations and global distribution partnerships, Bia Energy is poised to deliver competitive, sustainable energy solutions. Our shovel-ready project at the Port of Caddo-Bossier highlights our commitment to job creation in the region and to supporting industries seeking low-carbon alternatives.”
Advancing Low-Carbon Energy in Louisiana
The Shreveport facility will also produce blue hydrogen, which will be used on-site for power generation and as feedstock for methanol production. With the completion of the Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) study and the acquisition of major permits, Bia Energy is set to make a transformative contribution to the low-carbon economy.
