SHREVEPORT, La. — Centenary College welcomed members of its Class of 2030 to campus as students moved into residence halls ahead of the start of the fall semester.
College faculty, staff and student orientation leaders assisted incoming students during move-in, joined by President Christopher Holoman and First Lady Connie Holoman.
Many first-year students will spend about a week on campus before departing Aug. 7 for Paris, where they will begin classes as part of the college’s international program. The fall semester officially begins Aug. 24.
The move-in comes as Centenary continues work on several campus initiatives. In June, the college broke ground on the first phase of a multimillion-dollar renovation of Mickle Hall, the historic science building constructed in 1947. The initial phase includes a new Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant entrance and accessibility ramp, with completion expected by late August.
The renovation project received a $10 million federal appropriation approved by Congress in February and will convert Mickle Hall into the future home of the college’s School of Health Sciences.
Centenary is also preparing for the return of Gents football to Atkins Field on Sept. 5, when the team opens its home schedule against Westgate Christian University. The college will host five home games during the season, including its Homecoming game against Austin College on Oct. 17.
Additional campus events planned for the fall include three new exhibitions at the Meadows Museum of Art beginning in late August and the Centenary Muses’ Book Bazaar, scheduled for Sept. 18-19.
Centenary celebrated its bicentennial last year, marking 200 years since its founding.
