Parish officials acknowledge voter concerns following rejection of proposed sports complex financing.
SHREVEPORT, La. — Caddo Parish officials say they will evaluate public concerns following voters’ rejection of a proposed sports complex financing measure, while maintaining their commitment to economic development and recreational investment.
During the Caddo Parish Commission’s regular meeting Thursday, Nov. 5, Parish Administrator Erica Bryant addressed the outcome of Tuesday’s election, acknowledging the administration’s disappointment while thanking residents for considering the proposal.
“While we are disappointed with the outcome, we understand voters had concerns that led them not to support the initiative,” Bryant said.
The proposed sports complex was envisioned as a regional destination for youth sports, tournaments and recreational activities. Parish officials had promoted the development as an opportunity to attract visitors, support local businesses and create additional economic activity.
The financing proposal called for voter authorization of up to $60 million in general obligation bonds toward a project estimated to cost approximately $70 million.
Bryant said the administration would consider the concerns expressed by voters as it determines its next steps.
“The proposed Caddo sports complex represented more than a facility investment,” Bryant said. “It represented an opportunity to invest in our young people, strengthen our local economy, attract visitors, create opportunities for our families, and position Caddo Parish as a destination for youth sports and recreation.”
She also emphasized that the administration does not view the effort as a failure despite the election outcome.
“Our commitment to Caddo Parish’s future does not end with this election,” Bryant said.
Bryant said parish leadership would continue pursuing responsible economic development, recreational opportunities and quality-of-life improvements while maintaining fiscal stability.
The administration did not announce a revised sports complex proposal or alternative financing plan during Thursday’s meeting.
