SHREVEPORT, La. — The Shreveport Downtown Development Authority said it secured continued state support for downtown revitalization initiatives following the conclusion of the latest legislative session, with funding to be matched by local investments.
The agency credited Jeff Landry, Steven Jackson, Sam Jenkins, Thomas Pressly and other members of the Northwest Louisiana legislative delegation for backing the appropriation. Officials said the funding marks the second consecutive year that state dollars have been directed toward downtown Shreveport projects with a local match requirement.
According to the authority, the funding will support ongoing efforts to expand economic activity and development in the downtown district, including initiatives tied to infrastructure, business growth and community programming.
Jackson, who previously served in the Shreveport mayor’s office, has been involved in several redevelopment efforts, including the city’s acquisition of the Red River District and projects along the 600 block of Texas Street. Since his election to public office, first as a parish commissioner and later to the Louisiana House of Representatives, he has continued to advocate for downtown-focused investments.
Projects supported through past funding include the construction of Caddo Common Park and the expansion of a local business engagement program now known as the “Lunch & Discover Series,” a recurring event designed to drive foot traffic to downtown businesses and connect local stakeholders.
The authority said the latest state appropriation will allow these initiatives to expand, as it continues to work with state, local and federal partners on long-term redevelopment plans for downtown Shreveport.
