BENTON, La. — The Bossier Parish Police Jury approved a series of facility upgrades, infrastructure projects and community initiatives during its May 20 regular agenda meeting.
Jurors approved improvements at the Bossier Parish Maximum Security Facility, including the installation of new ball valves to improve water flow control throughout the building. Officials said the upgrades are part of ongoing efforts to maintain safety and operations at the facility.
The Police Jury also accepted the completion of renovations at the Bossier Parish Library Administration Building and approved an additional $200,000 for air conditioning improvements at the Benton Branch library. Officials said the funding will help maintain reliable conditions for staff and visitors.
Jurors approved a zoning request for House of Grace, a group home that supports young women aging out of foster care, allowing the program to expand its operations. Jury members cited the organization’s role in helping residents develop stability and life skills.
The panel also agreed to support an update to the Unified Development Code led by the Bossier City/Parish Metropolitan Planning Commission. The effort is intended to guide future development and growth across the parish, with costs shared among participating local government entities.
Parish Engineer Eric Hudson updated jurors on four road projects currently underway in Bossier Parish as part of ongoing transportation and infrastructure improvements.
The utilities department also reported on a new water well serving the Bossier Maximum Security Facility. Officials said the well produces 235 gallons per minute and has allowed the parish to take the older well offline.
In other business, the Police Jury adopted a resolution recognizing Friday, May 22, as National Maritime Day, citing the maritime industry’s importance to the local and national economy.
Jurors also recognized parish employees and fellow jurors for service milestones ranging from five to 30 years.
