NEW ORLEANS — The Louisiana National Guard has mobilized about 350 service members to assist local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies in New Orleans through February 2026, according to the Louisiana National Guard Public Affairs Office.
The deployment, authorized under Federal Title 32 status, will keep the Guardsmen under the command of Gov. Jeff Landry and Maj. Gen. Thomas Friloux, the Adjutant General of Louisiana. The mission aims to enhance security capabilities, stabilize the environment, reduce crime, and help restore public trust, in coordination with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the Department of Justice.
Troops will begin supporting law enforcement shortly after Christmas and are expected to assist with security operations for New Year’s Eve, the Sugar Bowl, and Mardi Gras events.
Louisiana Soldiers currently stationed in Washington, D.C., will return to Louisiana by the end of the month to join the mission, along with additional National Guard personnel.
“Our Louisiana National Guardsmen are highly trained professionals. Many of them supported law enforcement efforts in Washington, D.C., and are ready to support our home state,” Friloux said. “We will focus on a uniformed presence to enhance the quality of life of our residents and visitors in partnership with Troop NOLA of the Louisiana State Police and the New Orleans Police Department.”
