BATON ROUGE, La. Louisiana gasoline prices declined 4.6 cents per gallon over the past week to an average of 2.50 dollars, according to GasBuddy’s survey of 2,436 stations across the state. Prices are 7 cents lower than a month ago and 11.3 cents below year-ago levels.
Diesel prices also moved lower at the national level, falling 5.5 cents to 3.722 dollars per gallon.
GasBuddy reported that Louisiana’s cheapest station priced fuel at 2.16 dollars per gallon yesterday, while the most expensive posted 3.79 dollars, creating a 1.63-dollar spread.
National gasoline prices declined 8.5 cents per gallon in the last week to an average of 2.95 dollars. The national average is down 6.9 cents from a month ago and 5.4 cents from a year earlier, based on more than 11 million weekly price reports from over 150,000 stations.
Historical data show Louisiana prices trending below national averages for the past decade. On December 1, 2024, the state average was 2.61 dollars per gallon compared with a U.S. average of 3 dollars. A year earlier, prices stood at 2.73 dollars in Louisiana and 3.25 dollars nationally. The lowest Louisiana price in the 10-year comparison was 1.84 dollars in 2020.
Regional prices also declined. Baton Rouge averaged 2.52 dollars per gallon, down 7 cents from last week. Jackson prices fell 1.4 cents to 2.53 dollars, and New Orleans prices slipped 2.5 cents to 2.54 dollars.
“Nearly every state saw average gas prices fall heading into Thanksgiving, with the national average dipping below 3 dollars per gallon for several consecutive days … the lowest level since May 2021,” said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy. “With refinery maintenance largely complete and OPEC increasing oil production for December, oil prices have struggled. Combine those factors and you have a solid recipe for continued downward pressure on gas prices in the weeks ahead. A few dozen stations are already offering gas under 2 dollars per gallon, and we could see that number grow as we move further into the holiday season.”
GasBuddy, a PDI Technologies company, provides real-time fuel price data across more than 150,000 stations in the United States and Canada.
