Two Shreveport redevelopment efforts were honored as part of the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality’s 2025 Brownfield Awards, which recognized environmental cleanup and revitalization projects across the state.
LDEQ highlighted SporTran City and Caddo Common Park as successful Brownfield redevelopments. Both sites were acknowledged for transforming previously underutilized or contaminated properties into community assets.
The awards, presented Nov. 18 at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette LITE Center, honored five new EPA Brownfield Grant recipients, eight successful Brownfield projects, and four recently completed Voluntary Remediation Program sites statewide. Louisiana secured more than $6.8 million in EPA Brownfield Grants for 2025.
LDEQ’s Brownfields Program works with federal, state, and local partners to assess, clean up, and return problem properties to productive use. Through remediation guidance and technical assistance, the program helps local governments and organizations navigate financial and regulatory hurdles that can impede redevelopment.
SporTran City and Caddo Common Park were recognized among a group of revitalization projects in cities including New Orleans, Minden, Lafayette, Ruston, and Homer. The state also acknowledged recent voluntary remediation completions in Marrero, New Orleans, and Ruston.
LDEQ said the Brownfield and Voluntary Remediation programs aim to support environmental stewardship and economic growth by preparing contaminated sites for new development.
