TYLER, Texas – Brookshire Grocery Co. announced a $500,000 donation to local food banks across Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, and Oklahoma to help communities affected by the ongoing government shutdown and a temporary pause in federal SNAP benefits.
The contribution will support hunger relief organizations serving areas where the company operates and is intended to help bridge the meal gap for families facing food insecurity.
“Our company was founded on the core value of serving our communities, and that commitment remains strong today,” said Brad Brookshire, chairman and CEO of Brookshire Grocery Co. “We recognize the challenges many families are facing, especially during this time of increased need, and we are honored to support the food banks that are on the front lines of hunger relief.”
The donation comes as food banks across the region report rising demand due to the shutdown’s economic effects. In addition to the financial contribution, the company has launched its annual holiday food drives earlier than usual to provide added support.
Now through Dec. 16, customers at Brookshire’s, Super 1 Foods, Spring Market, FRESH by Brookshire’s, Reasor’s, and FRESH by Reasor’s stores can contribute at checkout using scan coupons. All proceeds will go to local food pantries and service organizations to help feed families during the holiday season.
Brookshire Grocery Co., a family-owned company founded in Tyler, operates more than 217 stores across four states and employs more than 17,000 people. The retailer has been certified as a Great Place to Work since 2020.
