WASHINGTON – Louisiana airports will receive nearly $11.8 million in federal infrastructure funding for runway, taxiway, and terminal upgrades, U.S. Sen. Bill Cassidy announced Monday.
The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Aviation Administration awarded the funds through the Airport Infrastructure Grant program under the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act.
Shreveport Regional Airport will receive more than $1.75 million across three projects. The grants include $1.03 million to replace terminal chillers that have reached the end of their useful life, $387,577 for design work on 8,882 square feet of terminal reconstruction including the Federal Inspection Station, and $339,153 for a 20,000-square-foot terminal expansion to add new gates, passenger facilities, and relocate the air traffic control tower.
Other allocations include $6.6 million for taxiway upgrades at Lafayette Regional Airport, $2.2 million for taxiway rehabilitation at New Orleans Lakefront Airport, $585,000 for runway reconstruction in Rayville, $426,000 for hangar construction at the Port of South Louisiana Executive Regional Airport, $126,000 for upgrades in Oakdale, and $72,404 for pavement work at Baton Rouge Metropolitan Airport.
“Airports are critical to Louisiana’s economy, commerce, and tourism,” Cassidy said in a statement. “We secured this funding to make our airports safer, more modern, and ready to meet future demands.”
