BATON ROUGE, La. — Louisiana State Treasurer Dr. John Fleming announced that the Louisiana Department of Treasury returned $69.3 million in unclaimed property to residents and former residents during fiscal year 2025, marking the second-highest annual payout in the program’s history. The record was set in FY2021 at $70.2 million.
Unclaimed property can include a wide range of assets such as payroll checks, bank accounts, royalties, stock certificates, utility deposits, and life insurance proceeds. These funds are often turned over to the Treasury when businesses are unable to locate the rightful owners due to outdated or incorrect contact information.
The funds are not limited to individuals. Estates, businesses, nonprofits, and government entities are also eligible to receive unclaimed property.
“There is currently $1.2 billion in unclaimed property waiting to be returned,” said Treasurer Fleming. “One in six individuals in Louisiana has unclaimed property, with claims averaging $900. It is your money; we want you to claim it.”
Residents are encouraged to search for their unclaimed property at www.LaCashClaim.org. The site allows users to quickly check for unclaimed funds and begin the claims process online.
