SHREVEPORT, LA — Centenary College has announced a $500,000 matching gift from Dr. Scott Cassingham and Dr. Pam McPherson ’82 to establish the Dr. Brad and Kay McPherson Endowed Chair in Biology. The gift will also support naming the biology department after Brad and Kay McPherson, honoring their longstanding contributions to the College.
The announcement was made during the “Toasting the Sciences” fundraising event on Friday, October 25, held at Mickle Hall, home to Centenary’s School of Health Sciences. The event featured a four-course dinner and wine pairing curated by sommelier Pamela Brown. Attendees also toured Mickle Hall, which is set to undergo a $20 million renovation as part of Centenary’s Forward: The Campaign for Our Third Century. The evening was a key highlight of the College’s 2024 Homecoming week, showcasing Centenary’s commitment to advancing science education.
“We are so grateful to Scott and Pam for their generous commitment in helping to establish the Dr. Brad and Kay McPherson Endowed Chair in Biology and the Dr. Brad and Kay McPherson Department of Biology,” said Fred Landry, vice president for development. “This tribute reflects Brad’s impactful tenure at the College and Brad and Kay’s enduring love and support of Centenary for over fifty years.”
Centenary aims to raise an additional $500,000 to fully fund the $1,000,000 endowment. Alumni and supporters are encouraged to contribute online at centenary.edu/give or by mailing checks payable to “Centenary-McPherson Chair” to Centenary College, 2911 Centenary Boulevard, Shreveport, LA, 71104.
