Shreveport, La. — United Way of Northwest Louisiana (UWNWLA) will host its 40th annual Day of Caring on Thursday, May 1, marking four decades of community-wide volunteerism across the region. Sponsored in part by Live! Casino & Hotel Louisiana, this year’s event will mobilize approximately 350 volunteers from local businesses and organizations, all committed to giving back to the communities where they live and work.
Day of Caring remains the largest single-day volunteer event in Northwest Louisiana. Teams of 5 to 15 volunteers will be matched with nonprofit organizations to complete impactful service projects that those organizations may not have the resources to address on their own.
“Day of Caring reminds us that the heart of Northwest Louisiana is its people,” said Kimberly Williams, Interim Director of Community Impact at UWNWLA. “Now in its 40th year, this event is more than just a volunteer day—it’s a tradition that shows how small acts of kindness can lead to big change.”
This year’s Day of Caring kicks off with a high-energy pep rally breakfast at the Live! Casino & Hotel ballroom, featuring entertainment from DJ Smiley, raffle prizes, and the return of the signature group dance to “Boots on the Ground” by 803Fresh.
Following the morning celebration, volunteer teams will spread out across the area to complete service projects that uplift local nonprofits and community spaces. Thanks to overwhelming community interest, all volunteer spots and nonprofit project submissions for 2025 are now filled.
The 2025 event also coincides with United Way’s national brand refresh, launching under the campaign banner “United is the Way”—bringing renewed energy and visibility to one of the region’s longest-running community events.
