Minden, LA – The City of Minden will begin receiving its electrical power from the Louisiana Energy & Power Authority (LEPA) starting June 1, becoming the 13th city to join as a full requirements member. This move is expected to reduce electricity costs for residents and businesses by 20 to 25 percent, leveraging LEPA’s collective purchasing power to secure more affordable rates.
“Minden is very excited to have signed a power contract with LEPA, a pivotal move to address our city’s high electricity costs,” said Mayor Nick Cox. “This agreement ensures a brighter, more competitive future for our community, reflecting our commitment to easing financial pressures and supporting Minden’s growth.”
LEPA Expands Its Reach in Louisiana
LEPA, a joint-action agency created by the Louisiana Legislature in 1979, provides member cities with firm, stable electricity at the lowest possible cost. The addition of Minden brings the number of full requirements members to 13, joining:
- Abbeville
- Gueydan
- Jonesville
- Morgan City
- Natchitoches
- New Roads
- Plaquemine
- Rayne
- St. Martinville
- Vidalia
- Welsh
- Winnfield
In addition to these cities, seven other municipalities hold memberships in LEPA but are not full requirements members, including Alexandria, Erath, Houma, Kaplan, Lafayette, Ruston, and Vinton. These cities still benefit from LEPA’s resources, services, and networking opportunities.
Kevin Bihm, General Manager of LEPA, credited Mayor Cox and city officials for their dedication to securing this agreement. “This new contract will bring the benefits of stable and competitive electric power to all electrical customers in Minden, while also benefiting the 12 other LEPA member cities that are full requirements members.”
A Strategic Move for Cost Stability
LEPA’s bulk power purchasing model helps shield communities from volatile energy prices, offering predictability and stability in electricity costs. For Minden residents and businesses, the shift to LEPA is expected to reduce financial strain and make the city more attractive for future economic development.
LEPA is headquartered in Lafayette and has been serving Louisiana municipalities for over four decades.
