SHREVEPORT, LA – The Prize Foundation, with support from Louisiana Entertainment, has announced a free, hands-on Hair and Makeup for Film Production Workshop as part of its Film Prize University workforce development initiative. Scheduled for Saturday, March 22, at LSU Shreveport, the workshop aims to equip Northwest Louisiana hair stylists and makeup artists with the specialized skills needed to break into the film and television industry.
This event marks the latest effort in the Film Prize University Series, which began in November 2024 with a Production Assistant training event.
“The team at the Prize Foundation and Film Prize are super proud to help lead the workforce development effort for the film industry in our community,” said Gregory Kallenberg, Executive Director of the Prize Foundation and founder of the Louisiana Film Prize. “Our hope is that attendees gain the training through Film Prize University to secure jobs in the media industry and improve their lives.”
A Unique Training Opportunity for Beauty Professionals
The immersive Hair & Makeup Workshop is designed to introduce beauty professionals to the unique demands of film and television production. Unlike traditional salon work, styling for film requires techniques that account for on-camera lighting, continuity, and production protocols.
Participants will receive hands-on training, working with live actors, professional lighting setups, and cameras to understand the full scope of on-set hair and makeup artistry.
The workshop will be led by Eva Reed, known professionally as Eva Styles, a licensed hairstylist, makeup artist, and educator with over a decade of experience in the beauty and entertainment industries. Reed has worked on major productions, including:
- Emancipation (starring Will Smith)
- A24’s Iron Claw
- Disney’s Secrets of Sulphur Springs
- Hulu’s Iron Mike
- Peacock’s Queer as Folk
Strengthening Shreveport’s Film Industry
Beyond individual career advancement, the Film Prize University workforce development initiative is part of a broader economic development strategy to solidify Northwest Louisiana as a film production hub.
By providing specialized training and cross-training opportunities for local talent, the program ensures that filmmakers have access to a skilled, reliable workforce—a key factor in attracting more film projects to the region. This initiative is expected to stimulate job creation and boost economic growth in related industries, including hospitality, retail, tourism, and small businesses.
How to Register
Registration for the workshop is free, but space is limited. Priority will be given to licensed cosmetologists and individuals actively pursuing their credentials through a cosmetology institution.
