On Monday, Nov. 4, 2024, the Cyber Innovation Center (CIC) in Bossier City held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the STRIKEWERX Innovation Lab, a new facility designed to advance Air Force Global Strike Command’s (AFGSC) capabilities in training, development, and rapid prototyping. The event was attended by key AFGSC officials, CIC leadership, local dignitaries, and members of the Bossier Chamber of Commerce.
The STRIKEWERX Innovation Lab introduces advanced tools, including augmented and virtual reality (AR/VR) headsets, computers for modeling and simulation, two 3D printers, a handheld 3D scanner, and a makerspace for prototyping. The facility also features a meeting space equipped with teleconferencing capabilities, creating a versatile environment for Airmen to develop and showcase ideas and solutions.
“I am excited about the opening of the Innovation Lab, which will provide tools for our Airmen to quickly fabricate prototype solutions to the problems they encounter in their jobs,” said Dr. Donna Senft, AFGSC Chief Scientist. This state-of-the-art space enables Airmen to experiment with AR/VR technologies, design solutions using advanced software, and rapidly prototype physical objects, all critical in addressing the Air Force’s evolving challenges.
The lab, a product of CIC and AFGSC’s ongoing partnership, bolsters STRIKEWERX’s mission to foster innovation and modernization within the command. It also serves as a collaborative hub for industry and academic partners, reinforcing CIC’s commitment to building strong connections that enhance military effectiveness.
“The CIC highly values its partnership with the command and is continually working to support their needs for innovation and modernization,” said CIC President Kevin Nolten. “This new Innovation Lab allows Airmen to bring their project ideas to life and improve the outcomes of our STRIKEWERX Design Sprints.”
The STRIKEWERX Innovation Lab builds upon CIC’s impactful legacy, which has delivered more than 78 solutions to the Air Force, totaling over $268 million in modernization value. Through these efforts, the CIC continues to strengthen AFGSC’s nuclear mission and enhance the nation’s defense capabilities.
“There are incredible opportunities for tech transition and for small businesses to connect with Air Force Global Strike Command to solve some of the most complex problems our troops face—not only here at Barksdale Air Force Base but across the country and around the globe,” said Nolten.
