EMPWR LA recognized for connecting workers with training for manufacturing careers
SHREVEPORT, La. — The North Louisiana Economic Partnership has received international recognition for a workforce development program designed to connect North Louisiana residents with training and career opportunities in manufacturing.
The International Economic Development Council presented NLEP with a 2026 Bronze Award for Excellence in Economic Development for its EMPWR LA program in the Postsecondary Education Partnership category.
EMPWR LA connects participants with skills, certifications and employment opportunities aimed at preparing them for high-demand manufacturing careers across North Louisiana.
NLEP said the recognition reflects partnerships between economic development, educational institutions and industry employers working to strengthen the region’s workforce pipeline.
The award comes as manufacturing remains one of North Louisiana’s largest employment sectors.
NLEP data shows manufacturing accounts for more than 19,200 jobs across the organization’s 11-parish service region in 2026, with employment in the sector increasing approximately 2% from 2025. Average earnings per manufacturing job are approximately $85,860.
Major manufacturers operating across North Louisiana include Frymaster, Benteler Steel/Tube, Prolec GE USA, Sabre Industries, Fibrebond, RoyOMartin and others.
Workforce development has taken on added importance as existing manufacturers expand and new industrial and technology investments increase demand for skilled workers.
Frymaster recently announced an $11.5 million expansion of its Shreveport manufacturing operations that is expected to create 47 direct jobs while retaining 511 existing positions. Louisiana Economic Development estimates the project could generate another 66 indirect jobs.
Meanwhile, billions of dollars in planned data center investment across Caddo and Bossier parishes are expected to increase demand for construction trades, technical workers and other skilled occupations.
NLEP said EMPWR LA was developed to help residents gain the skills and certifications necessary to move directly into manufacturing careers while helping employers develop a stronger pipeline of qualified workers.
The organization credited its education and industry partners with helping build and support the program.
NLEP serves an 11-parish region across North Louisiana and provides economic development services including business recruitment, prospect management, site development and workforce initiatives.
