SHREVEPORT, La. — The Housing Authority of the City of Shreveport has broken ground on Bayou Grande IV, a new affordable housing development that will add 70 apartments for residents ages 55 and older.
The project is being developed with support from the Choice Neighborhoods Grant and community partners. Bayou Grande IV will include a three-story elevated apartment building with 56 one-bedroom units and 14 two-bedroom units.
All 70 apartments will be subsidized through Project-Based Vouchers and will serve seniors with incomes at or below 60% of the area median income.
Construction is expected to take about 15 months. The development is planned to meet National Green Build standards, with energy-efficient and environmentally responsible features.
“Today’s groundbreaking represents more than the start of construction,” said Bobby R. Collins, chief executive officer of the Housing Authority of the City of Shreveport. “It reflects our commitment to providing safe, quality affordable housing where seniors can enjoy a safe, supportive community surrounded by the neighbors and resources they value.”
Bayou Grande IV will include a clubhouse and community space, a quiet lounge, fitness center, business center, mail center and outdoor gathering areas. Wireless internet access also will be available in the community building.
