Baton Rouge, LA – After three years of dedicated service, Chairman Ronnie Johns of the Louisiana Gaming Control Board (LGCB) has announced his resignation, effective June 30th, 2024. Chairman Johns conveyed his decision to Governor Jeff Landry in a formal notification on April 4, 2024.

Appointed by former Governor John Bel Edwards in July 2021, Chairman Johns has played a pivotal role in shaping the gaming landscape in Louisiana. Under his leadership, the gaming industry has witnessed significant milestones, including the transition of two legacy riverboat licenses to first-class land-based properties, with three more properties currently under construction.

Reflecting on his tenure, Chairman Johns expressed gratitude to Governor John Bel Edwards and Governor Jeff Landry for entrusting him with the responsibility of leading the regulatory body. He also extended his appreciation to his fellow Board members, the Louisiana State Police Gaming Division, the Attorney General’s Office Gaming Division, and the dedicated staff at the LGCB office for their unwavering support and cooperation.

“It has been an incredible honor to serve in this very important position to regulate such a large industry in our state,” said Chairman Johns. “I would like to thank former Governor John Bel Edwards and present Governor Jeff Landry for having the faith in me to lead this regulatory body. I will leave the Board knowing that I did my work as regulator with the integrity that it calls for with fairness to the industry but with absolute compliance of our strict gaming laws and rules that we must adhere to.”

Chairman Johns emphasized the importance of prioritizing family and personal commitments. “There comes a time in everyone’s life when they should step back and make their family the number one priority,” he stated. “I have arrived at that point and my wife, daughter and son in law, and five grandchildren will now be my focus in life.”
