Downtown Shreveport Artwalk Promises a Night of Creativity and Exploration

by BIZ Magazine

Get ready to immerse yourself in a vibrant tapestry of art, music, and cultural experiences as Downtown Shreveport Artwalk returns on Wednesday, May 1st, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Presented by the Downtown Development Authority, this monthly event offers a diverse array of activities for art enthusiasts, families, and anyone looking to enjoy a unique downtown experience.

With a new addition to the lineup, Robert Trudeau’s first Downtown Tells promises to captivate attendees with intriguing narratives of local history. From 5 p.m. onwards, visitors can explore the heart of downtown Shreveport, meeting local artists, witnessing live art demonstrations, and even purchasing one-of-a-kind pieces to take home.

One of the highlights of the evening is the opportunity to engage with talented artists and witness their creative process firsthand. At Agora Borealis on 421 Lake Street, Katy Larsen’s studio will showcase an eclectic mix of art, while Tarot Card Reader Brooke Marcum offers insights into the past, present, and future.

For those fascinated by the art of glassmaking, Sanctuary Glass Studio, also located at 421 Lake Street, will feature three glass artists demonstrating their craft and showcasing their exquisite creations.

Venture over to Lee Hardware Apartments at 719 Edwards Street for pop-up artists, wire wrapping demonstrations by Joan Nerrettig, and the debut of Downtown Tells with Robert Trudeau. Trudeau will unveil the intriguing story of Ol Norman, a free black barber who migrated to Shreveport in the 1840s and led the Ethiopian Orchestra. Artwalk favorite Mischa Farrell will also be on hand with her Sketch the City activity.

Crockett Street Trading Company on 431 Crockett Street invites visitors to browse through a selection of unique gifts and specialty items, accompanied by pop-up artists offering their creations for sale.

As the evening unfolds, take a stroll to 429 Crockett Street, where a variety of pop-up artists will showcase their artwork. And if you need a moment to relax, enjoy a free massage by Tara.

With so much to explore and discover, Downtown Shreveport Artwalk promises an unforgettable evening of artistic immersion and cultural enrichment. Whether you’re on the hunt for a special art piece, seeking inspiration, or simply looking to enjoy the vibrant atmosphere, this event offers something for everyone.
