Centenary Giving Day Raises Nearly $190,000 for Student Scholarships and Programs

by BIZ Magazine

Centenary College celebrated its second annual Centenary Giving Day on Thursday, February 22, coinciding with the College’s Founders’ Day celebration. The event proved to be a resounding success, raising an impressive $186,300 for student scholarships and programs, largely driven by online initiatives and special giving incentives. Close to 300 individual donors enthusiastically participated in the Centenary Giving Day campaign.

Fred Landry, Vice President for Development at Centenary, expressed profound gratitude to alumni and friends whose generosity contributed to the remarkable outcome. “The overwhelming support for Centenary Giving Day reflects the profound impact the College has on our community and the lives of those who have benefited from its educational and formative experiences,” Landry remarked.

Centenary College, on the brink of its bicentennial celebration in 2025, embarked on a monumental $50 million capital campaign in November 2023. Titled “Forward: The Campaign for Our Third Century,” the initiative aims to propel the sciences forward, with a primary focus on a $20 million renovation of Mickle Hall, the cornerstone of Centenary’s thriving science programs. Additionally, the campaign seeks to provide resources for new academic and co-curricular programs, bolster student scholarships, and sustain ongoing operating expenses. As of now, the campaign has amassed an impressive total of $39,500,000+ in gifts and commitments.

A notable highlight of Centenary Giving Day was the launch of the Friends of Mickle Hall Society, a prestigious giving society reserved for donors contributing at least $1,000. Contributions through this society will play a pivotal role in the transformation of Mickle Hall into a cutting-edge hub for scientific innovation. Plans include the construction of a new Health Sciences Pavilion, equipped with flexible classrooms, state-of-the-art laboratories, and studio-format design for enhanced learning experiences.
