BAFB conducting prescribed burn today

by BIZ Magazine

The USAF Wildland Fire Team at Barksdale Air Force Base (AFB) is set to conduct a prescribed burn on Wednesday, February 21st, commencing at approximately 10:00 a.m. The burn will take place on the East Reservation of the base, situated on the south boundary and east of Moon Lake.

The purpose of the prescribed burn is to manage vegetation and reduce the risk of wildfires in the area. While residents of the base and those in the surrounding vicinity may observe some smoke, there is no cause for alarm, as the operation is being carried out under controlled conditions.

Weather permitting, the USAF Wildland Fire Team anticipates conducting additional prescribed burns on the East Reservation on Thursday and Friday as well.

For individuals seeking further information regarding the prescribed burn or its impact, they are encouraged to contact the 2nd Bomb Wing Public Affairs office at 318-456-1015 or email [email protected].

Prescribed burns are a standard practice employed by land management agencies to maintain ecosystem health and reduce the risk of wildfires. Through careful planning and execution, these controlled burns help to mitigate the threat of uncontrolled wildfires while promoting biodiversity and overall habitat resilience.
