Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry Visits Texas Border with Legislators and National Guardsmen

by BIZ Magazine

Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry, accompanied by a delegation of state legislators and military officials, embarked on a visit to the Texas southern border on Thursday, May 9. The group, which included Brigadier General Thomas Friloux and several senators and representatives, received a comprehensive briefing on Operation Lone Star and engaged with Louisiana soldiers stationed in the area. They also shared a meal with Louisiana troops and met with soldiers deployed at Eagle Pass.

Operation Lone Star, a collaborative effort between Texas and neighboring states, aims to address the ongoing challenges posed by illegal immigration along the southern border. Governor Landry expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to witness firsthand the work being done by Louisiana National Guardsmen in support of this mission.

“It was great to join our legislators and see firsthand the work our Louisiana National Guardsmen are doing at our southern border. Due to the help of Louisiana, and many other states, illegal immigration has dropped significantly since September 2023. I appreciate the Guardsmen who briefed us as well as the legislators who attended today’s trip,” Governor Landry remarked.

The legislators, echoing Governor Landry’s sentiments, emphasized the importance of Louisiana’s contribution to border security efforts. They noted the significant impact of the Louisiana National Guard’s presence in reducing border crossings since their deployment.

“We appreciate Governor Landry inviting us to see firsthand the crisis at the Texas border. It was an eye-opening experience. One thing is clear—sending our National Guard to help our neighbors in Texas was the right call. It is evident, from the decrease in border crossings since the Louisiana Guard arrived, that their support to our neighbors in Texas has played a crucial role in protecting our borders,” the legislators stated.

The visit provided an opportunity for state officials to gain insight into the complex challenges faced by communities along the southern border and reaffirmed Louisiana’s commitment to supporting its neighboring states in addressing these issues.
