SHREVEPORT, La. — Students participating in Lemonade Day Academy will put their entrepreneurial skills into action today during the Lemonade Stand Celebration at Louisiana State University Shreveport (LSUS).
The event, hosted from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. in Room 209 of the Business and Education Building at LSUS, marks the culmination of a week-long youth entrepreneurship program. Presented by Louisiana Economic Development, Cadence Bank, and Cohab, Lemonade Day Academy provides students with immersive instruction in business planning, financial literacy, and real-world operations.
“This celebration represents the exciting moment when all the lessons these young entrepreneurs have learned throughout the week come together in a real business experience,” said Jessica Schiele, City Director for Lemonade Day Shreveport-Bossier City. “They’ve worked hard to set goals, create business plans, develop their products, and design their stands. Now they get to see their hard work pay off.”
Throughout the week, students learned how to set goals, budget, plan, and prepare to run their own lemonade businesses. Today’s event gives them the opportunity to put that knowledge into practice by operating fully functioning lemonade stands. Most lemonade and baked goods will be priced between $1 and $2, and attendees are encouraged to bring small bills to help the students make change easily.
Lemonade Day Academy is a four-day summer camp designed to deepen the traditional Lemonade Day curriculum. The program aims to teach students not only how to run a business, but how to develop essential life skills like confidence, teamwork, and responsibility.
Supported by community partners including LSUS, Lyons Pride Coffee, and others, the program also emphasizes giving back. Students are encouraged to follow the “spend some, save some, share some” model, helping them learn key lessons in money management and philanthropy.
Since 2007, more than one million youth have participated in Lemonade Day across the United States, Puerto Rico, Canada, and Bermuda.
