SHREVEPORT, La. – Willis Knighton Health will offer discounted coronary calcium scans throughout February in recognition of Heart Month, aiming to promote early detection of coronary artery disease, one of the leading causes of heart attacks among adults.
The screening, provided through the Willis Knighton Heart & Vascular Institute, will cost $50 total, including a $25 procedure fee and a $25 radiologist reading fee. The 10-minute, non-invasive test combines a CT scan and an EKG to identify calcium deposits in the coronary arteries, helping physicians assess a patient’s risk for heart attack and guide treatment decisions.
Scans will be available at Willis Knighton North, Pierremont and Bossier locations. Appointments are limited and available Monday through Saturday during February. A physician referral is required.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, coronary artery disease affects roughly one in 20 adults age 20 and older. Because many individuals are unaware of the condition until symptoms appear, such as chest pain or heart attack, coronary calcium scans are considered an effective tool for early detection.
Patients can schedule a scan by contacting their primary care physician or cardiologist. For additional assistance, Willis Knighton Pierremont Cardiology can be reached at (318) 212-3858, and Willis Knighton Cardiology at (318) 631-6400.
