SHREVEPORT, La. — United Way of Northwest Louisiana has launched the Northwest Louisiana Financial Security Center, a regional initiative aimed at helping individuals and families improve financial stability through access to coaching, education and financial tools.
The center, which officially launched Jan. 12, expands on the Shreveport Financial Empowerment Center, a program developed in partnership with the City of Shreveport. The new effort broadens services beyond the city to reach residents across Northwest Louisiana.
The Financial Security Center offers free one-on-one financial coaching and counseling focused on debt reduction, savings and long-term planning. Additional services include access to BankOn-certified banking options for unbanked individuals, financial literacy education for high school seniors, estate planning guidance and workplace-based financial wellness programs.
“Everyone deserves the opportunity to build financial stability and achieve long-term stability,” said LaToria W. Thomas, president and CEO of United Way of Northwest Louisiana. “By expanding this work beyond Shreveport to serve communities across Northwest Louisiana, we are increasing access to proven, high-impact financial counseling and resources. This approach connects individuals and families to the tools, systems, and partnerships needed to reduce financial barriers, strengthen economic mobility, and build lasting financial well-being.”
The initiative also connects residents with public benefits, job readiness resources, and pathways to homeownership and small business development through partnerships with employers, financial institutions, nonprofits and public agencies.
United Way of Northwest Louisiana will host a ribbon cutting and open house for the center on April 2, 2026, in recognition of Financial Literacy Month. The event will provide community members and partners an opportunity to tour the facility and learn more about available services.
Officials said the effort reflects a broader strategy to address financial challenges facing households, particularly as many navigate rising costs and economic uncertainty.
