SHREVEPORT, La. — Two local water towers, one showcasing public art and another supporting growth at the Port of Caddo-Bossier, are competing in the 2026 Tank of the Year contest.
Public voting for the People’s Choice award is open through Oct. 16, with the winner scheduled to be announced Oct. 19.
The Linwood Elevated Storage Tank features a design by Teri Rhodes White incorporating Shreveport’s airport code, SHV, and the tagline “City on the Red,” recognizing the Red River. A hidden message spelling “SHV LOVE” in Morse code circles the top.
The Shreveport Regional Arts Council administered the call to artists for designs for the city’s water tower exteriors. The Linwood tower serves southeast Shreveport and greets travelers entering the city along Interstate 49 from southern Louisiana.
The second local entry is the Port Elevated Storage Tank. Originally installed in 1995, the tank returned to service in 2023 after more than two decades out of operation to help meet growing water demand in the Port of Caddo-Bossier area.
The refurbished tank provides 2.5 million gallons of storage, helping stabilize water flows and support fire protection and periods of peak demand.
Together, the entries highlight two roles of water infrastructure: providing essential capacity for a growing community and serving as a visible expression of local identity.
Residents can view the entries and vote at https://tankoftheyear.com/ by filtering for Louisiana. Both towers are listed under Shreveport. Direct voting pages are available for the Linwood tower and the Port of Caddo-Bossier tower.
Voting is limited to one People’s Choice vote per active email address. Participants may also request a calendar after submitting a valid vote and completing the calendar request form.
