SHREVEPORT, La. — Southwestern Electric Power Co. announced Tuesday that it has issued three requests for proposals seeking up to 3,000 megawatts of new accredited capacity and associated energy resources to support customer demand and comply with Southwest Power Pool planning reserve margin requirements.
The utility said the all-source procurement process is part of its long-term planning strategy, which considers customer growth, economic development and the retirement of older generation assets. SWEPCO said the request is not tied to any single project and is intended to support continued reliable and affordable electric service across its territory.
The company said the RFPs will seek proposals from a range of generation sources, including natural gas, wind, solar and energy storage. SWEPCO is requesting proposals through purchase and sale agreements, power purchase agreements and capacity purchase agreements.
According to the company, the additional resources would further diversify its generation portfolio and support future energy needs while maintaining grid reliability.
SWEPCO issued the 2026 All-Source RFP on May 26 in accordance with Louisiana regulatory requirements. Proposals are due July 29, and any selected projects will remain subject to regulatory approval.
Additional information about the RFP process is available on SWEPCO’s website.
